Painting Courses
About the workshops
We shall spend time outside when possible, connecting with nature; immersing ourselves in the sounds, sights, and magical moments of the day, whilst gathering information. We will paint indoors to develop our work from sketches, photographs or foraged gatherings from the garden. My studio will be available plus a large but basic outbuilding for those of you who want to go big and wild!
I will be demonstrating inside and out (weather permitting) and covering a range of water-based, mixed-media techniques appropriate to the nature subjects we find. Collage will be used on day two, using some of our work from the first day or you can continue to make painterly experiments if preferred. The emphasis will be on developing your own personal creative skills. With such a small group there will be plenty of time to discuss your problems and dreams; to share ideas and find a plan for moving forward. The aim will be to have fun, play and experiment. The workshop is for artists ready to move forward with their work and would not be suitable for beginners.
Refreshments and light lunch will be provided with afternoon tea to complete each day, giving us the opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved.
Please note that my studio is up a flight of steps and a level of fitness is required for any short walks to find subjects outside or within the garden nature reserve. The paths, steps and slopes are sometimes slippery or wobbly, with roots or holes in the ground to trip over and appropriate footwear needs to be worn. Unfortunately, these workshops are therefore unsuitable for disabled students. ( See T&C below)
There is plenty of local accommodation. Modbury is the nearest town but places like Salcombe, Bigbury on Sea, Thurlestone, Ringmore and Totnes are all within commuting distance.
You will need a car. Wastor Park is beautiful, wild and unique but it is also off the beaten track, down a devon lane. It is only a six-minute drive to the beach and estuary. The studio is in the South Hams; an area of outstanding beauty , half an hour from Dartmoor.
A material list will be sent on booking. These will be suggestions rather than a prescriptive list and will include watercolour, inks or your preferred water- based mediums plus brushes and so on. We will work on paper to allow for collage work. Anything unusual will be provided.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
By booking, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions, acknowledging the wild nature of the garden and that you visit at your own risk.
Cancellation Policy
Places on Ann Blockley workshops are limited, and we therefore operate the following cancellation policy regarding refunds. I wish I could be more flexible but as a one-person business this is not possible.
If you cancel within the statutory 14 day ‘cooling off ‘period after booking, you will receive a full refund. Otherwise, once you have received confirmation of your place on the workshop you will be liable for the whole fee, unless we receive written notification of cancellation at least 4 weeks before the event date, in which case you will be refunded if the space is subsequently filled minus £40 administration fee. For non-attendance or cancellations made 4 weeks or less before the event, the workshop fee will be non-refundable.
Written notification of cancellation can be sent via email to ann@annblockley.com with a cc copy to ann.blockley.artist@gmail.com. Emails need to have been acknowledged as received for cancellations to be valid.
In the unlikely event of cancellation by the tutor, paid course fees will be reimbursed in full, but we are unable to refund any other costs that may be incurred, such as flights, accommodation etc and would encourage you to take out insurance. Please note that the workshops will go ahead whatever the weather, as often students travel from a distance before the event, and it can be difficult to make contact with all attendees to cancel at short notice.
