Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour- 207th Exhibition

3 April to 18 April 2019

Mall Galleries, The Mall, London SW1

 A prestigious exhibition showing a diversity of styles and techniques, from traditional uses of watercolour to  more experimental and innovative paintings. The RI showcases the best of British watercolour and beyond. Ann was elected as a member to the RI in 2018. It  will be her  first year exhibiting as a  full member and in 2019 she will be showing 6 paintings in the annual exhibition.  Ann will be attending the private view on April  2nd. On April 3rd she will be in the gallery to offer informal portfolio reviews. See following link for further information. Please note ‘small’ portfolio as there may be a queue!

John Davies Gallery

26 – 28 April 2019  ‘Fresh’ Art Fair, Cheltenham Racecourse, Gloucestershire, UK    

Following her success in his gallery last year with the Arborealists, The John Davies  Gallery has invited Ann to  show with them at ‘Fresh’ Art Fair in Cheltenham.   About six-eight small- medium sized  paintings of Ann’s  will be for sale at this event



New DVD and launch!

Ann will be filming a new dvd with Townhouse Films in Spring this year. This is likely to be published and available  in early May. Ann will be having a dvd launch  exhibition from her studio in Gloucestershire in May.  Her previous film ‘Experimental Landscapes in watercolour’ was Townhouse films best selling dvd. Watch this space for updates at the end of March!

Arborealist group shows 2019 and beyond

Ann is a member of  The Arborealists. They are a group of  professional artists  who often but not exclusively objectify ‘trees’ in their ongoing practice. The group is involved with projects which develop new perceptions of painting and language while promoting the importance of staying connected with nature. Ann is involved with several ongoing group projects  this year including one on Dartmoor and Exmoor in conjunction with the National Park authorities.  The exhibitions showing the eclectic and creative results of this enterprise will be in 2020. So far, Ann will be showing in the following Arborealists Exhibitions  in 2019 and other venues  will be confirmed later:

July onwards    Monmouth  Museum, Monmouth, Wales ( details to follow)  This is an extension of last year’s  project about Lady Park Wood with new paintings .

7 September – 26 October 2019   Young Gallery, Salisbury  (details to follow)   details to follow

6th December 2019 – 29th March 2020  National Memorial Arboretum , Alrewas, Staffordshire (details to follow) 




Magazines articles

Ann and her father’s work were featured in several  magazines throughout 2018.

In April 2018 she wrote an article for Cotswold Life  called ‘Like father, like daughter’ about her own life and painting and those of her late father, John Blockley (1921-2002).

In May  2018 edition of the Artist magazine there is a series of revised excerpts from her book   ‘Watercolour Workshop’.

In June 2018 edition of Artist magazine there is a new article   developing  some of the ideas presented   in the final chapter of ‘Watercolour Workshop’ about working in a  style that veers ‘Towards Abstraction’

In  June 2018 edition of Artist and Illustrator there is an article about Ann written by journalist Sally Hales, following a visit to Ann’s studio. There is also a short extract from Watercolour Workshop.

In the Summer 2018 edition  of Artist magazine Ann has written a new article about her father and his working practice to coincide with the launch of the new book ‘John Blockley- A Retrospective’
